This past Monday and Tuesday, we were able to attend the National Homeschool Christian Basketball Championship. Apparently, 10 to 15 thousand people went through Oklahoma City for this tournament. We set up a booth for OWU, and had a good time mingling with prospective students and other college reps. The trip can be summed up with the following memories: Oklahoma bombing memorial, FAZOLI'S - free breadsticks, a restless night at a hotel under construction, and a stroll along the riverwalk in Bricktown. Good times!
Today in chapel, our featured guest was Os Guinness; a true "treat" as Brenton would say. His accomplished speaking style and delightful English accent demanded attention. This wise man left us with the challenge of reforming the Western church in a modern world. Are we willing to raise the standard and not simply accept corroded Christianity? Has living in a modern world not allowed us to see that Christianity in America is becoming corroded, or already is? Sadly, I (Kelly) have recently been convicted of "Christianity" in America. I believe many of us have become sidetracked and have forgotten the core of what we believe. This challenge (above) from Os, poorly written in my own words, was deeply unsettling. I know I often do not live in a way that would leave others to gather that I believe God's Word is authoritative; truly dictating a change. What a challenge to all of us!
Another surprise was running into Phil Count after chapel. (Phil was Kelly's last youth pastor.) He and the other four Counts are doing quite well!
