B's Birthday - PART II: Surprise Party

The second half of B's birthday was a surprise party at the soccer guys' house, though a number of students helped rally everyone together. The soccer guys helped coax him into coming by telling him about "The Senior Guys' Going Away Party". We could not think of an excuse half this good knowing how committed Brenton is to the guys he works with.

B was a little delayed in coming as he started falling asleep in our aparment, probably due to getting up there in years! Yet the moment he walked in, the party started. I had a few of the girls tell me B had the party of the year; go figure...Happy Birthday Buddy!

B's BIRTHDAY - Part I: Dinner in the Dungeon

Brenton's birthday started out pretty low key. We had a pizza at home, took a walk with the dog and opened presents. (Lexi decided she needed to join in the spirit by dressing up in her birthday attire, while Brenton tried on his new shirts.) So, I told Brenton that we had surprise reservations at 8:00pm; the Price Tower. I filled B in on our little surprise just before we left, since he was the driver and all. We were both pretty excited about the Copper Restaurant since this was on our list "To Do in B-Town".

Initial impressions, as you can tell, are quite impressive. The tower lit up is beautiful. However our perspective changed a quite quickly. We were more than cozy in the compact elevator, riding up to the 15th floor. We got off and mentioned our reservations. It seemed that they were not quite ready for us; finally we were seated on the upstairs floor of the restaurant (aka: the Dungeon). We walked up the narrow staircase loving the metal poles and mesh wire. We were more excited to be seated in a cold room by ourselves (dated furniture, no music, only sounds of chatter and clanging dishes, mesh wire in front of the windows). We found ourselves feeling more than awkward as a MARRIED couple! No joke.

Brenton and I thought it would be more than worth it for the amazing food that we were going to pay a good amount for. The Chocolate Molten cake sounded delectable and looked wonderful. Hmmm...well, the texture was a little off. It tasted like a cake that had been in the oven for 5 minutes, not cake yet not quite fudge. Interesting; I know. So after five, six bites of fudge batter, I had to take a little break from the intensely rich dessert. To add excitement to the night, we had a photo shoot in between the waitress' visits. We were in and out of the Dungeon with an $18 receipt in less than 30 minutes! Don't worry; the Birthday celebration just gets better!

Humor or Honor

We literally are coming to the end of the school year; one more full week before finals. So it was fitting that tonight was our annual Spring Banquet, the last big event to honors students.

Oh wait; the students now seem to prefer humor over honor. We truly had some good laughs with the student awards; "Most Likely to Be President of OWU, Most Likely to Survive in the Wild & (my personal favorite) Most Likely to Own a Beet Farm." That's right; you read them like they were presented. Oh and there were some serious ones too like "Best Glasses & Mr./Mrs. OWU!" I also have to mention, on another random tangent, it was ironicly entertaining that we were clapping for "The Students Most Likely to Fall Asleep in Class". We proceeded to give them a gift for their great efforts. I had to stop and think about that one. It was a night of laughs between bites of chicken and cheesecake; good fun and irony.

(I do have to make a disclaimer that the students really do get an Honor Chapel this week; this past award ceremony was put on by students.)

What to Say...

We are coming down to the end of another college year; which means the busyness begins. The last few Student Life activities are coming up shortly, staple graduation parties have begun and boy have those bridal showers started to spring up. And while I was not the princess or honored guest, I was even able to attend a "Princess Tea". (Thankfully, I didn't have to wear a tiara.) The fun never ends if you live on a college campus! And the talks of preparing for new beginnings and opportunities are never ceasing.

So, we are just enjoying our time with the students and all the lively events going on at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. We are loving the precious memories and fun times.

C.S. Lewis

"If we discover a desire within us that nothing in this world can satisfy, also we should begin to wonder if perhaps we were created for another world."
